WORCESTER, Mass. - Clark University opened its celebration of Black History Month on Saturday by highlighting local Black artists’ art, music and other crafts.

The Black Arts Explosion, held at the Dana Commons building, featured clothing, jewelry, artwork and more.

Arsema Hindeya, a student vendor, said the event was a good opportunity to bring the Clark University community and the surrounding neighborhood together.

“It’s basically an opportunity for the Clark community, as well as the Main South community, to come together and host a very nice, warm event for everyone to come and just view other people’s art,” Hindeya said.

The event was sponsored by the Black Student Union and the Center for Community Engagement and Volunteering.

“I think it’s really cool that Clark allows us to bring other students and even community members to this to celebrate Black art during this month,” said Larriyah Graham.

Clark University has a range of other events planned for the remainder of Black History Month, including lectures, a virtual book club, and a Black Pop-Up Market.
